ANNUAL RETREAT 2008
This year will mark eleven years since the beginning of the Annual Retreat. The Annual Retreat, first held in Baltimore and then in Lotus Garden since 2003, is an intensive three-week long practice and study retreat where students from across the globe gather to receive teachings from Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche. Over the eleven years since it inception, the Annual Retreat has been a precious opportunity for practitioners to gather together and interact with each other as a buddhist sangha and deepen their practice and study of various levels of Buddhism. In order to accommodate the needs of a variety of students, the Annual Retreat is currently broken up into three sections: Entering the Mahayana, Entering the Vajrayana, and The Dzogchen Retreat. Entering the MahayanaThursday, 31st July–Sunday, 3rd August, 2008. During the first portion of the retreat, Entering the Mahayana, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche will be giving teachings within the Hinayana & Mahayana vehicles. This portion of the Annual Retreat is open to students who are new to the dharma. From this year, Rinpoche will be beginning with a new curriculum which will include introduction to the buddhist tradition of philosophy and meditation based on the teachings of the Buddha's 1st and 2nd turnings of the wheel of dharma. register Entering the Vajrayana *Sunday, 3rd August–10th August, 2008.
During the Entering the Vajrayana, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche will continue to bestow teachings on the commentary related to the ‘dus pa mdo (Sutra of the Great Assembly). During this section, Rinpoche will be continuing with her teachings on the meaning of the various yanas or vehicles of Buddhism. Last year, Rinpoche presented teachings from the 'god & human yana', 'the shravakayana', and 'the pratyekabuddhayana'. This year, Rinpoche will be bestowing teachings from the ‘dus pa mdo on the bodhisattvayana and the outer tantras. Practitioners will also be given Vajrayana transmissions and be introduced to rituals and sadhana practices. This section of the retreat is also a time when Ngöndro students may receive transmissions and be involved in practice sessions. Entering the Vajrayana is open to students who have done some amount of buddhist study and practice. The third part of the retreat, Dzogchen Retreat is open to Vajrayana students of Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche or to those who have received permission from Rinpoche to attend this portion of the retreat. During the Dzogchen Retreat, Rinpoche will continue to bestow teachings on the profound teachings of the Mindrolling lineage. Rinpoche will also continue with the teachings on Dzogpa Chenpo. This year Rinpoche will also teach on Chöd and Vajrakilaya. Practitioners attending this part of the retreat are encouraged to bring their own Chöd drums, bell and dorje and kangling. register * Vajrayana students please note: Those with permission to attend the 'Dzogchen Retreat' who also wish to attend Entering the Varjayana may register for both using a single form.
